3 Rivers Art is an amalgamation of my many interests: Music, art, collections, photography and whatever
else I may come across brought under one area. It is mainly to enjoy but if your heart moves you and feel you
need a thing more than me then you are welcome to make an offer.
– This is meant to be a showcase of my own art as well as that of family and friends. It will branch into many
avenues with the intent of sharing via the website as well as making pieces available for purchase if you like.
– Long ago about 1988 on a short visit to DC I made a mad dash through the museums of the Smithsonian in
an attempt to see them all in a very short time. A completely unjust way to appreciate all that is put into the
curatorial efforts but it did allow me a chance encounter with the newly opened National Museum of African
Art of which I would have missed completely had I stayed with my family all day in the Natural History
Museum as the kids could not leave the dinosaurs for any reason. So a deal of some sort was struck with my
bride that she remain with the kids and I would see the world. So off I scurried; a blur through the American
History and Air and Space; I slowed a little through the Hirshhorn but back to full speed in the Freer but
when I went down into the beautiful, new, underground structure of the African Art building and saw the
power of this new form of art for the first time, I was awestruck. I came to a full stop, took my first deep
breath and knew I was home. I couldn’t tell you one piece I saw that day but I can still feel the power it
stirred in me. I slowly started collecting masks of which all were tourist pieces and was proud to have the 4 or
5 hanging on the wall. Then a few years later I was made aware of the differences between tourist and
authentic art. I started buying authentic only to be aware that many “authentic” pieces are merely wolves in
sheep’s clothing. But once I got my hands on my first real piece I could feel the energy reemerging from my
museum visit and the serious collecting began. I am still learning everyday as this is an extremely complicated
game with many people out there who live to deceive and cheat their way to whatever measure of progress
they set for themselves. It is difficult sorting through the rubble and finding the gem and even the experts are
fooled from time to time, but we continue to learn and more importantly we should continue to share what we
learn so that perhaps it may be a little easier for ourselves and those new collectors in the future. So I put part
of my collection before the eyes that wish to see it and invite comments and questions. I am not a dealer but
am always interested in trading out pieces or letting go of some so that I can find others. So if you see
something you are interested in then feel free to ask.
– I have been playing music most my life; guitar and writing songs. I have gathered a few songs into an album and
offer it to share. I no longer play in clubs or in public so this is the only way to share the songs.
